Harassment, Scare Tactics, Malicious and Inappropriate Behavior plagues a Quiet St. Augustine Neighborhood
A seemingly run-of-the-mill election process has not only turned ugly, but has turned criminal. One candidates' spouse has not only been verbally attacked in order to ‘shut her husband up’, she has also been relocated to a new work location where the harassment has continued.
Big city politics? High-paying political positions at stake? Hardly.
The community of the St. Augustine Shores lies on the southern end of St. Augustine with nearly 4,000 homes and double that in residents. Touting itself as “A Beautiful Community for Family and Friends” on their website (www.staugshores.net), the Shores has recently become a hotbed of resident intimidation, allegations of improper management, election tampering by office staff, and a myriad of other unethical, illegal, and immoral actions by those in leadership positions. Residents have long complained about the unfair and disrespectful behavior shown to them and feel their hands are tied.
There is currently a lawsuit in process (not the first for the Shores) for unlawfully charging an increased monthly fee to residents and illegal under the Shores Deed Restrictions, in addition to pre-suit mediation demands filed by four other Shores Residents.
The current board of directors continues to make unilateral decisions with complete disregard to the community and its residents. At a recent open board meeting, the President, Jerry Zinn threatened to contact the police if a resident did not ‘sit down and shut up’ when asking a simple question of the board. A relative of a Board member has allegedly damaged a fellow board member’s car and harassed him to the point that he finally resigned before the end of his term.
This Board routinely disregards Florida laws pertaining to Homeowner Associations, stating that they "don’t apply to me". Those whom do have the best interest of the community are physically threatened, harassed and intimidated. This continues to be an injustice that should no longer be tolerated. Many residents keep quiet out of fear of retribution in this ‘family-friendly’ community.
